Chicano theatre is one of larger categories of Spanish speaking theatre in the U.S. Los Angeles and Chicago were the main areas such theatre. Important plays during this time period include Zoot Suit and Roosters. Cuban theatre became very popular in Tampa. Here was the site for the only Hispanic/Cuban Theatre Project. The Cuban Revolution had a big effect on Cuban theatre. Numerous playwrights flourished included Leopoldo Hernandez, Ivan Acosta, and Dolores Prida. Much of Mexican theatre work is derived from the history of the people. Once they arrived to the US, they remained in touch with their culture. As a result, much of their theatre work was Mexican influenced. Usually most of the plays were religous. Some of the most popular pieces were El coloquio de San Jose and La Pastorela. Many of these plays underwent changes, however. Once the revolution broke out in Mexico, more Mexicans came to the U.S. and Mexican theatre flourished even more. Puerto Rican theatre was a big part of Spanish-speaking theatre as well. Unfortunately, their work has been somewhat diminished and harder to record. This is so because Puerto Ricans have mainly come within the last forty years and little attention was paid to them. Some well known Puerto Rican stories though include "The Ladies Man", "La Pasion", and "El grito en el tiempo".
